"A WAR MEANS A RISK."
It can't be expressed as
"A RISK MEANS A WAR",
although the second sentence is
grammatically right.
Therefore, the question
"What DOES A WAR MEAN?" can not
be replaced by "WHAT MEANS A WAR?"
The inner logic of the 1st question is
not the same as that of the 2nd, even though
"'What means A' can still include all of
the meanings that 'What does A mean' may have"
under circumstances.
I'm really a little cunfused by the whole tricky
process of the discussion between you and Ludi,
but I'm positive that I am correct with
the grammar and logic here.
Besides, I feel Ludi is also serious about it
this time, not mocking and teasing as usual.
When I was pulling his leg saying "Ludi is also
wrong with the sentence", I was referring to his
focus of thinking distracted to an irrelevant point.
He is right in pointing out the mistake of the
form of your question in the first place.
We all make mistakes now and then.
As long as we keep correcting them and hold
away from making them repeatedly, we are winners.
An American saying goes:
Winners never quit, and quitters never win.
Thank you for discussing with me and reminding me of
the logic of a sentence, which An AUTHORITY like me
(just kidding) might neglect.
