As a matter of fact, I did not really think about the exact meaning of whole sentence, not even the phrase "making ..." until I took final sentence. Originally, my concern was just to have any sentence pointing to "monmey".
As I was typing the final sentence, I automatically became hesitating because I did not feel very comfortable to have a gerund (making) to follow the verb "mean". I remembered that, in some of the dictionaries, "mean" was not supposed to be such a typical word. Even though it can be accepted now by such as TEOFL (very American), someone like Lao Lu may still stick to those dictionaries (more British) and challenge me back.
It was then when I started thinking about the different meanings of those different sentenses. To be safe, I was even thinking to take "making" away. However, I diceded to take it as a chance to check Lao Lu's knowleage of English grammar while taking the present meaning of the sentence, for which I even checked at that moment my new dictionary that allows the formation of "mean + -ing".It was why I stated that you had batter English than Lao Lu as soon as I read your comments on the meaning as that of "cause". (BTW, I don' t think that "causes" can really replace "means" in my sentence as I told Lao Lu for checking his knowlage of it again. How do you think of it?) Therefore, you can hardly say that its meaning was wrong due to my logic of thinking.
More importantly, although it may have another meaning, "What means A" can still include all of the meanings that "What does A mean" may have. Is it correct?
