To Mr joewoo
I have just read your poster downstairs. Once again, my eyes are moistened.
Your words are among those that have moved me most deeply. Two or three years ago, a guy by the name of "doufu" (beancurd) wrote a poster, saying that "I had never dreamed that the greatest influences I have received for my lifetime was from an anonymous stranger on the internet. Your articles have played a critical role in the forming of my counter-revolutionary thoughts". Now you are basically telling me the same thing, which, I dare say, is far beyond a writer's wildest dream. Not many writers could claim such a great honor. Even without a book published and with my manuscripts all lost, I can count myself as the most accomplished Chinese writer.
Talking about publishing my books, I regret to tell you that there won’t be any possibility in the foreseeable future. A few months ago, a foundation showed interest in publishing my book, but after they read the manuscript, they found it unacceptable. That was only natural because the unmovable principle I adhere to is “chu shu shi xiao, zuo ren shi da” (“Publishing books is nothing compared to adhering firmly to the stand of an independent intellectual”). As a result, I had deliberately added a few articles that were not in the taste of that foundation. In general, my writings offend every and each political force at home and abroad. In light of this fact, I do not believe I will have any chance to get my book published. Sorry to let you down.
With regard to your suggestion that I should gain some knowledge of computer, again, I regret to say that I am basically lazy-bones, always reluctant to catch up with newly emerging hi-tech. As they say in this country, “you can’t teach an old dog to play a new trick”. I am afraid I am too damn old for new tricks. Anyway, I will try my best after I get retired.
Thank you! Thanks for your kind acknowledgement of my efforts. I shall treasure all those nice words for the rest of my life. In the mean time, I sincerely hope you will regain your health pretty soon.
