The question is not whether we like democracy. It is, like the "infamous" independent intellectual proposed, a question how to realise it in a feasible way, for the best interest of the Chinese people. What China needs at the moment are those who have the ability to learn from past mistakes, instead of self-righteous I-AM-ALWAYS-RIGHTS. People would not be deeply impressed by sheer slogan shouters and shallow one-sentence name-callers, worse still, in the name of democracy and morality.
In my view, the worst politicians could be among the mathematicians and poets. The former are, by training, prone to being simplistic/mechanistic, and the latter may tend to be unpredictible.
