We need more such articles.
In Beijing, I think it is more convenient and cheaper to use taxi
than to own a car. A private car is only for showing off.
Xiao An once, in fighting back on one of my comments, that he
belonged to the middle class when he was in China. I once read a
magzine in which the criteria of a middle class are listed as
the following:
1) Your monthly salary is almost 10,000 yuans.
2) You have a car.
3) If you dine outside, you dine at good restaurants no worse
than one in a 3 star hotel.
4) You like to read tourist essays by people like Yu Qiu Yu.
...
Of course by the above standards, you are surely in the upper
class, not the middle class. I don't know what that author had
in mind about the notion of the middle class.
Xiao An, were you a middle class?
