也许一开始起源是表意, 但随着语言的发展, 就大致丧失了这个 (本来就是原始的) 作用. 更错误的是所谓中文是象形文字的谬论.

Unfortunately, they are missing from many common characters, and were removed from numerous "simplified" characters, causing many scholars to miss the point that they are a necessary resource for Chinese readers. It is not a brilliant ideographic script; it is a poor phonetic script."
