Son of a gun, has 刘晓波 ever considered who has the right to propose a rewriting of United States Constitution?
Should Chinese society permit shortcuts, like no other country? I certainly wish this Nobel Peace Prize can boost 刘晓波 's audacity of hope, like it did its work for President Obama.
These three names come to me after reading Prof. Woei Lien Chong's paper 'Hubris in Chinese Thought: A Theme in Post-Mao Cultural Criticism', prepared for the conference 'Heaven's Will and Life's Lot: Destiny and Determinism in Chinese Culture' May 18-21, 200.
"Thus, when it comes to the question of 命，we can conclude that these philosophers recognize both the reality of givens which the individual cannot control and the possibility (in the case of Liu Xiafeng and Liu Xiaobo, even the inevitable necessity) of making a personal choice. What we choose and how we choose is what matters. For Li Zehou, choice is a matter of reason, For Liu Xiaobo, it is courage. For Liu Xiaofeng, it is faith."
Is the courage embodied by Liu Xiaobo comparable with his nemesis Chairman Mao? I doubt if Liu has made much progress in that regards.
