it was perfectly polical correct to discuss today's taboo; and 'seperate but equal' legitimized racial segregation. this segeragation was crashed by Brown vs Education board in supereme court; President Eseinhower even put army in to garauntee the crash.
President Johnson faced another challenge: black voting crisis. Yes, there was a constitution amendemtn(14th?) gauranteed black voting rights. But, in reality, it was never true in Southern states, Alabama was one. State constitution forbode this rights. Johnson used his ability persuaded Alabama governor allowing black folks to vote. Last time, Ms Clinton commented Johnson's deed, but blacks hailed her, what a joke!
Today's world is different. Alot racial taboos, especially in coperate world. But it doesn't mean there is NO discrimination now. There is a new concept called institutional discrimination.
