I have been contacted via e-mail by an Asian American
organization, called 80-20 for at least 6 years, if I remembered correctly. I did not tag it as a junk mail for somehow I was curious about it although I have never taken it seriously. I have not known what 80-20 was until today when I decided to Google it on the web.http://www.80-20initiative.net/
Here is what I found out about 80/20:
“The good thing about the 80/20 rule is that you don't have to understand statistics to be a believer. Yes it has foundations in economics and yes, it was “proven” using statistical analysis by a man named Pareto, but it is not meant to be understood only by economics professors.”
And in Wiki:
“The principle was suggested by management thinker Joseph M. Juran. It was named after the Italian economist Vilfredo Pareto, who observed that 80% of income in Italy was received by 20% of the Italian population. The assumption is that most of the results in any situation are determined by a small number of causes.”http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pareto_principle
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pareto_principle
The text goes:
“By the numbers it means that 80 percent of your outcomes come from 20 percent of your inputs. As Pareto demonstrated with his research this “rule” holds true, in a very rough sense, to an 80/20 ratio,”
Therefore the Asian American organization has the name of 80-20 that bears two things: 1) We are the minority and 2) We may have 80% influential capability in the US policy making towards us if you speak out. 80-20 sounds a very good name to me.
