The point i was making from another context may be related to LuDi's argument above. Yet my conclusion is Western has a lot to learn from Eastern philosophy.
I am very impressed by C-SPAN program interviewing Alvin Toffler about his new book 'Revolutionary Wealth', especially life and passion shared between the two authors as husband and wife, thinkers and doers. Alvin says 'Heidi and I are reading machines'. They devour books not one at a time but many across vast different fields. I do the same plus another dimension, both in Chinese and in English.
And i felt there is something missing in 'Revolutionary Wealth', its neatly 10 parts and 50 chapters.
John Ruskin once said 'There is no wealth but life'.
My book will be entitled 'wisdom based free society head-on with knowledge based free economy'
The main point is already here:
i am afraid writing isn't much useful for enjoying life. at times, it's painful. its main function is to help the writer to think out of the box and then due to a writer's sensitivity, elect himself to act at a better timing than all others can even dream of about acting. Withhold knowledge and transmit it to the right person is much more important than acquiring it and spread it undiscriminatory. Withold knowledge for a better timing is wisdom.
Part of the woes of this world is that acquisition of knowledge does not come with much personal struggle at all. When knowledge is packed as ready to eat meal, it only serves to feed vanity and personal pride.
knowledge is marketable but wisdom is not precisely because wisdom is to withhold knowledge after acquiring it with some sort of personal struggle. Without struggle, there is no joy of overcome. Pursuit of happiness is to overcome one's own limit witnessed by another human being. Human affection, friendship, love and brotherhood come out naturally when the reach of a threshhold and the timing are natural occurances with no other purpose than 'being' in natural state of affairs. Even if one fails to overcome, humanity of our failure becomes the irreplacable value of our life.
And i failed repeatedly on many important roles in life by other's standards, by my own raised conscious because of heightened awareness through writing only as a way for reflective thinking and discovering. Failure expands a sense of duty and joy as a wholesome feeling not a splitting sense of accomplishment between leader and follower, that is a glorious way to be alive and free.
