To quote one of my friend's rationale:
"Since the UNSC only consist of few members and almost all are with the
same minds as USA,...... Adding Japan on the council would only boost the power of the Old Order formed after WWII. This old order have in the past half centure failed to meet the needs of poor countries in S America, Asia and Africa. They have shown their interest in Midle East because of oil and look what that lead us. I strongly think Asia should have another member on the council and Japan hardly represent enough of Asian's interest."
Obviously, others see the question boiling down to something else quite differently.
BTW, I am rather pleased that out of several scores of my email receipients, none has voted "AI" so far.
