There are soldiers and tanks at the hospital. I see most of them were younger than us, ~18,19 from countryside. They were in no way as self-conscious as college students.
I should probably verify 蒋彦永医师的见证, if somehow i can get in touch with a few medical graduate students who worked at emergency room again. As for myself, i was totally ignorant of those events. My work area was pretty much restricted at hospital's computing center, 4th floor, above the CT scan rooms.
Then again, i don't see any reason to doubt 蒋彦永医师的见证. But his conclusion on the good will and good cause of students democratic self proclaimation urgency is a whole different matter.
On a unrelated angle about the emergency room drama, i heard on NPR today. A bunch of operating room surgents ordered pizza for their night shift. Pizza didn't come for a long long time. Then the delivery pizza boy that they all knew for quite some time turns out to be the patient on their operating table. He's been hit by a car. ER doctors did their best but still couldn't save his life. The pizza boy died. Doctors are getting very hungry after hours of operation mission unsuccessful. Then one guy discovered pizza boxes left on the sidewalk. 'Should we have the pizza or not? ' One guy says, 'yeh, but how much tip should we leave for the delivery boy?' Everybody laughed and they ate the pizza, went back to work...
