The European dragon hordes treasure and virgins, neither of which the dragon can make any use. This dragon symbolizes both a young man’s inward ego and external challenges. The story of a young knight going out to slay a dragon and win the treasure and virgin represents both a young man’s internal and external journey to conquer his own ego and psychological block, hence, releasing his potential and to win a place for himself in the world.
The Chinese dragon rises from the jungle and is a primeval symbol for life. There was some cultural misunderstanding in the early days when the East encountered the West, but now European and American scholars thoroughly understand this and have a deep respect and appreciation for all the mythologies of the world, including the Chinese dragon. Why can’t Mr. Lu do the same?
