Thank you for the posting. i'm reading this book 'was hinduism invented? - britons, indians, and the colonial construction of religion' by Brian K. Pennington (2005 oxford univ. press)
'Pennington retells the story of Christians' and Hindus' reception of each other in the early 19th century in a way that takes seriously the power of their religious worldviews to shape the encounter itself and help to make the very religions that colonialism thought it "discovered." While postcolonial theory can illuminates issues of power and domination, he demonstrates, history of religious reminds us of the continuing importance of the sacred and spiritual dimensions of the peoples under colonial rule.
For immigrants elect to become a citizen of an alien country, it is the host country's right to keep their own religion a mainstay for better or worse.
