ST. PETERSBURG, Russia - A broad spectrum of Russians protested Saturday
in Moscow, St. Petersburg and other cities, expressing anger over a new
law that replaces welfare benefits with cash payments. The demonstrators
accused President Vladimir Putin (news - web sites)'s government of abusing
power and trampling the rights of ordinary Russians.
