Let me give my point of view on this. For many of you, it will be outside the box because the majority of us do not think chankian.
To start off with, I believe you can't really faze a chini by saying you would give Taiwan nukes, Karthik. Taiwan is under an US nuclear umbrella already. Taiwan and Japan probably do have nukes on their own. Taiwan has a program since the 1960s.
Let us not too kissy-kissy with the other orientals like Taiwanese or Japanese. I've met enough to know what they think of us. For all their modernity and efficiency, they're primitive racists in my view. Unlike western countries, they don't have any of the inhibitions regarding discrimination.
I rather a China under communism than under a Taiwanese/Hong Kong-type regime. At least with the communists, it will ensure that vast bulk of chinis stay behind.
Taiwanese, Hong Kongese, Koreans and Japanese view desis with with a lot more prejudice than the mainland chinis simply because the mainland chinis are poor. Money in East Asia actually breeds greater disdain of darker people and more worship of whites. It's the nature of these people.
Talking about us giving nukes to the Taiwan will get us nothing but racist derision from the Taiwanese. They can't picture us as being more advance than they. I found this out years ago.
So just because Taiwan is China's enemy doesn't make it our friend. Try looking at the maps put out by the ROC.
If we want to play the Taiwan card, it's not by giving Taiwan nukes. It's by allying ourselves with Taiwan's protector, the US. This is what the big lizard fear more than anything in the world.
The competition in the long run is not PRC vs India but the chinese cultural world vs the desi cultural world. Keeping the PRC communist would keep the majority of Chinese in poverty and inefficiency. A democratic China powering East Asia is not our friend in the eventual clash of cultures.
So a nuclear Taiwan that triumphs over China and makes the PRC its industrial hinterland will still be an enemy and would be a far more dangerous competitors for our children in the future than the PRC is to us today.
Our best bet is to keep the chini world divided and keep the largest part of it mired in inefficient communism.
