nation gathered in Chicago to convene the National Convention of the Socialist Party USA. At the convention, a new National Committee was selected, resolutions concerning issues like the Cuban embargo and the abolition of NATO were adopted, and, on the 18th, a 2004 presidential campaign was approved. The next day, the convention nominated Walter Brown, a longtime SP member and former Oregon state senator, as the Socialist Party Candidate for President. Mal Herbert of Vermont was selected as the Vice Presidential Candidate. We all hope that this ticket will serve as a unifying force for those currently in the party, as a tool to both attract members to the SPUSA and as a way to get people discussing democratic socialism in general. Congratulations to our candidates and let's get to work so that people can vote their hopes and not their fears. More details on the convention are forthcoming. Vote Brown/Herbert in 2004! VOTE SOCIALIST!!!
