"Sniffology" ABC (Lesson 2)
芦笛
This time I am going to teach you some basics of logic reasoning.
Start point:
Human comprehension is measured by the individual's ability to understand the abstractive materials. The more abstractive and complicated the materials are, the greater difficulty one encounters while trying to understand them.
Therefore, it is quite common that one cannot understand abstractive materials but can understand simple articles written in plain language, but not vice versa. That is to say, it is impossible that a clever person able to understand abstractive philosophical theories fails to understand simple articles.
Do you understand what I have just said above? I don't think you would have any problem, because you are not a "philosopher". So do you agree? I guess so.
Now please answer the following questions one by one:
1) How could a person who always fails to grasp the meaning of the simplest poster in the BBS and has made countless jokes with his/her misunderstanding understand the countless quotations of all sorts of philosophical schools in his/her articles?
2) If he/she cannot understand those quotations, what's the point in using them? What's the purpose? Except showing off, can you think of another reason?
3) If he/she cannot understand what he/she has read, how can he/she translate them into Chinese? How can his/her translation be faithful to the originals?
4) What kind of person will go and buy books translated by such a "writer" who cannot even understand a plain piece appeared in a place of the lowest class like BBS?
