我评论的依据主要是英文媒体,的确,欧洲国家的媒体我不甚了解。但是这种植根在文化和深层次结构上的偏见,或倾向性,哪个文化都不例外呢?

I have a counter question. If someone was to state that the Japanese, the Koreans, the Vietnamese and the Chinese (Taiwan and Mainland) all twist reality in the same way for ideological purposes, would you agree? After all, they are all part of the Far East, aren't they? And Confucian cultures all have the same cultural base, don't they? Twisted Evil

不如何这个教育制度,这个社会语言discourse之类的东西。好像edward said说的东方主义,说得就是整个西方文化,欧洲文化的

I first have to say that I have never read the works of Edward Said and other post-colonialists. I have the impression that like the incompetent W.E.B. Du Bois, Mr. Said had a political ax to grind - and did not do this in a very scholarly manner. All a part of "ethnic studies" at American universities which frequently bring academic shame upon my nation. (To be fair, I get the impression that post-colonial studies in India are of high quality.)

From what I understand from Wikipedia, Mr. Said was only talking about the West's perception of the Arab world. Furthermore, he was excluding German and Russian studies of the Middle East. Thus, he was not even talking about a confrontation between the West and Islam, let alone the West and East Asia.

Mr. Said does not have a good reputation in the French world. The idea of "orientalisme" in French usually only refers to art. I have been in an francophone Arab forum (the largest French language Muslim forum in the world) for the last two years: www.mejliss.com . Almost nobody takes him seriously - they are quite aware that the Islamic world is currently inferior in a cultural sense to Israel and the West.

Nor does Edward Said have much relevance to the American relationship to China. Unlike Muslim Arabs, Chinese people have high status in the United States. You people are welcome marriage partners and earn more than the average white. The few Americans who know that the capital of the Republic of China is not Bangkok distinguish between the good Chinese (Taiwanese, Minyun, religious groups) and the "baddies" (CCP stooges). In most people's perception, this is not a matter of conflict between cultures but between two Western political ideologies - "Leninism" and democracy. This is an oversimplification of course, but differs radically from our view of the Islamic world.
