Yu-chien Kuan (* 1931 in Guangzhou) ist ein chinesischer Schriftsteller.
In seiner Kindheit erlebte Kuan 1938–45 die Besetzung
seiner Heimatstadt Guangzhou durch die Japaner. Während
der Kulturrevolution, in den 60er Jahren, floh er über
Kairo, wo er eineinhalb Jahre lang in Haft gehalten wurde,
nach Deutschland. Seit 1968 lebt er in Hamburg, wo er 1974
im Fach Geschichte promoviert wurde. Seitdem unterrichtet Kuan an der dortigen Universität Sinologie. Außerdem ist
er Autor mehrerer Bücher über chinesische Kultur und
Geschichte, sowie über sein Leben.
2006 wurde Kuan mit der Medaille für Kunst und Wissenschaft
der Stadt Hamburg ausgezeichnet.

Kuan Yu-chien (* 1931 in Guangzhou) is a Chinese writer.
In his childhood experienced Kuan 1938-45 occupation of
his hometown of Guangzhou by the Japanese. During the
Cultural Revolution, in the 60s, he fled through Cairo,
where he was one and a half years in prison, after Germany.
Since 1968 he lives in Hamburg, where he specialized in
the 1974 doctorate in history. Since Kuan teaches at the
local university Sinology. He is also the author of
several books on Chinese culture and history, and about
his life.
Kuan was 2006 with the Medal of Art and Science of the City
of Hamburg.
