Did it maybe occur to you that Tchaikovsky - who was gay himself - wrote Swan Lake as an allegory of a boy who turns his back on the conventional marriage with the Princess his mother has arranged... and instead pursues a different kind of love that has to be arranged in secret liaisons? And that at the end the lovers are still prevented from being together, and they're only permitted to be together "in the afterlife"?
